The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 和第一部比起来还是无聊了点，大概习惯了无非就是正常人说的话他们都颠倒罢了，也就没什么新奇的了。不过也没很差。中庸吧。
童话般的美好与平淡，牛仔终将逝去，但西部精神永不消逝。东木即使是拍自己在大银幕上种种花养养草，我们做影迷的也很知足了。
故事线太单薄了，老爷子又导又演实在有点力不从心了。
这似乎是东木的一封老年情书，一辈子的骑士精神，男性力量，在老年全部看淡，男性也可以不用力量征服，也可以温柔的哭泣，男性一生戎马，老了只想在咖啡店抱着心爱的人跳舞，年轻时候执着的事，老了反而迷茫了……
好家伙，感觉小孩子不能看吧，看的我都有点瘆得慌。不过美国人脑洞是大，这都啥剧情都能想出来，哈哈哈哈哈。佩服
哥特元素越来越少了，剧情也略无聊...可我真的好爱这个ip，期待电视剧
感觉剧情矫揉造作、无痛呻吟，可能这是妹子青春期的叛逆吧……家人们并不出彩。打发时间可以看看。

3.5 不知道是否是因为此乃沪上近期硕果仅存的非院线，觉得观感高于6.5分，一老美、一老墨、一公鸡的公路片，即使结局谁都能预料到，即使谈不上很强的情节性，可是这路上的萧条美墨边境小镇竟有几分超脱世俗的遁世的魅力，生活简单居民淳朴食物也不错，也许在圣母的庇护下，所有过去的伤痛和不堪得以掩埋；遥想很久很久很久以前少年自己的观影初期看到泪奔的《完美的世界》，也想起去年电影节大银幕又拜过了老爷子正年轻帅呆的镖客三部曲，心头突然升起万般感触，珍惜东木头吧，有几人能陪伴观影旅程那么多年，又有几人可以目睹他戏里戏外逐渐年华老去
迟暮的东木，依旧怀着英雄式的温柔，角色很平，故事也不够新。
