The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 整个剧情建立在谎言上
首先选角我都很满意(除了Connor实在不是很Connor)，剧情基本没有瞎改，其实音乐剧版剧情本身已经很鸡汤了，况且DEH触动我的点是能代入Evan的自身性格，所以其他部分改不改我倒没什么意见。很喜欢的good for you没有了有点遗憾。原创歌曲居然都挺好听，大家演绎得也很棒。
210929 我挺喜欢新歌的. 然后新歌是融合得最好的… 别的都还挺一言难尽的. 我觉得故事线更完整了 所以本着7.5+的想法打个4星.
很少给这么低
对DEH的情怀是因为大学音乐剧班做了中文版，同我们照明班合作一起做一场演出。当时我们班没有人看过这部大热的获奖作品，但是经过无数遍排练，到最后正式演出，我的眼泪一直在打转。几年过去了，泪点和年龄成反比例发展，看完电影眼泪啪叽啪叽掉。requiem和他与老妈坦白这两段哭的最狠。但其实我挺同意其他瓣友说的：这种哭泣更多是因为音乐旋律带来的纯生理反应（所以音乐真的很神奇，基本上全程能跟着唱下来），而非真的是因为剧情。特别是看完电影版，我强烈感受到这部剧真的全员恶人。谁也别赖谁，相互利用完最后还是让eh当了替罪羊而已。这种所谓“喜剧”外表的“误会”真的是讽刺的要命…
2.5。14首歌里删掉了5首（appalling…），包括evan妈妈的一整条线被弱化。Alana的角色歌有拓开主题，但zoey/evan感情线实在太轻率。结尾比起剧版“不明所以的原谅”提供了具体的行动，然而回复的力度依然不能令人满意（可以说是本子的硬伤了）。
剧情乌鸡鲅鱼，强行把音乐剧搬到银幕上好尴尬……
看完又是发自内心地微笑，最近一直特别容易被浅浅感动。观影过程中一直被谎言困扰心神，后来思索着也许是我太胆小了，倒也挺好笑。
没想到还能这么令人震惊
添加的小细节没有特意解释。并且在没有完善好已有的人物线（删歌）的情况下还加新人物线。
Sorry，但是Ben在大荧幕演高中生是真的很违和，而且把音乐剧里Connor父母的片段删减了，或许有些没看过音乐剧的观众大概会觉得剧情很单薄而且歌很尬吧。花了那么多时间拍电影版还不如发售宽街原卡官摄。
即使是个谎言也希望它是美好的，最后还是忍不住酸了鼻子。里面的歌曲还蛮好听的。
如果你是埃文汉森，希望你能被找到不再孤单。
网易云日推到歌曲，听完了整张专辑，再顺藤摸瓜找到了电影。其实这种把音乐剧改编成电影还是很难处理好的，在电影的框架里正常对话突然转变成唱歌式讲述，观感还是违和了，衔接不好既失去电影质感，又没有舞台的震撼。但不管怎样，歌曲还是很好听很好听！
很巧合地连续看了两部丧子片，相比《乔.贝尔》的写实、沉闷，这部电影温暖、治愈，我更喜欢本片。PS：艾米现在变胖了好多，但是演技依然在线！
可惜音乐剧的Evan让我共鸣，影版虽然用了原男主，但改编得有些不讨喜了。
似乎是认定了看这部电影的只有音乐剧观众了。
P.S. 这个Connor不太凶
期望越大失望越大。主演年龄的错位感其实不如预告里那么吓人。不过，为舞台撰写的劲歌金曲的独白，在空旷、人数极少的的舞台上所能产生的孤独感，和在电影实拍这种人声鼎沸熙熙攘攘中产生极大的矛盾。一下子把青少年自杀的困境变成一种固步自封的刻板古怪。
前天看的，心里很复杂。DEH的舞台版真的非常赞非常戳心，可是电影版却没什么特色，甚至戏剧冲突还比不上舞台版。当然Ben Platt是一如既往地稳，唱演都好，Connor我很心塞没选OBC原卡的Mike Faist小哥哥，他瘦瘦高高长卷发的形象更贴合角色，演技和唱功也都过关，唉。不过值得夸的还是有的，比如真相大白之后Evan主动去读Connor推荐的书去了解他，总算是弥补了一些遗憾吧，再次可惜这只Connor不是Mike小天使，呜呜呜。
