The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 導演告訴我 婚姻就是被困在有限空間裡的牢籠，是親密關係間的政治博弈，是妻子靠靈修希望直視深淵化作小鳥，是丈夫沈默不語失蹤逃避放縱。用攪拌機尖銳聲音和故意推倒的啤酒來無聲發洩，是不再主動改變，任其一次次互相傷害再相安無事維繫家庭往前走。導演說想拍是因為周圍大部分朋友到了50多歲的年齡都出現了婚姻問題，他在反思，婚姻制度與人性的關係。如果放在香港更偪仄的環境下，親密關係又將怎樣呢？

看过就是记录了老年生活的一些琐事，老夫妻就是形同陌路，很无聊

简单故事，搞笑过程，圆满结尾，治愈内核，完成度ok。
林狗有笑到，但除此之外就没有任何笑点了，特别僵硬，结尾有点温情…国产喜剧是什么毛病？逗不笑你就硬往温情上头扯？
两位主演演得再好也没法掩饰剧作本身的空洞 甚至是用狗狗绝育这条副线来填充（而且还没拍好） 所谓出现在夫妻间的波澜也是拍得毫无波澜 不过陈以文倒是真的成为中年一事无成还好面子男性的标准演员了
2.5。影人本身比作品更精彩。時隔七年，錢翔還是執著於拍攝50+女性的生命、生活與困局（前作是打不開的門，本作是被鎖上的露台），只是這回更沉潛到婚姻的命題，更簡化為人物的一連串狀態。似乎和《迴光奏鳴曲》是同一個家的場景。極度靜謐的氛圍下被放大的細瑣環境音。導演提到把缽想像成嘆氣蠻有趣。有一些若有似無的sign，如鳥等。尾聲的浴缸戲似乎推不太到，還好有鬆手。攝影還是喜歡走景深。（211113）
