The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 虽然他妻女的死和女主有关，但是显然他应该为此付更大责任，明知道他的妻子不能受刺激，但是他还是想出轨。他妻子知道后肯定会受刺激。他不去怪自己，而把责任都推给了并没有什么过错的女主。

这种创作上的“轻易”扼杀了所有可能性，更是直接拉低了影片表达，不过也只有弗兰克这人能干得出来了，正如他长久以来执着于玩弄自己笔下的主人公一样。但有一说一弗兰克在景框调度上的执行力和他对于场景内部元素的整体把控能力还是蛮强的

里面有吐槽汤姆克鲁斯最后的武士发型，克里斯海姆斯沃斯海滩玩耍。

有点警局大逃杀的味道，一个警局，感觉没一个是好人。
屡次出现巨大的视觉及听觉冲击。开场时觉得无聊清水，但在男主留下之后剧情开启了一系列奇怪但又合理的走向。（P.S.男主既有中年男人的油腻又有少女的娇羞。
没有什么前因后果，没有人物形象的深入描写，好似留白，但又有点让人琢磨不透
女主太惨了，什么都没做错却得到一个家破人亡的结局，作家妻女的死明明是他老婆有精神病导致的，他却把账算在女主头上，女主被折磨这么久也不想着反击，明面搞不过不会来个同归于尽吗
今年最佳大爽片，编剧牛逼，反派角色牛逼，坏人太多了一环接一环，各自打自己的小算盘，悬疑感笑料娱乐元素十足，演技全程在线，摄影全程在线。内华达拉斯维加斯警局故事，黑色幽默有点儿昆丁的感觉，但没太血腥。一个警局场所拍的如此细腻，杀入警局那场戏估计能载入影史，警局到最后还有点儿生化危机浣熊市PD的感觉，目测能入围一个最佳编剧最佳男配。
无论什么都是，总有一天会结束的，那些事物只会残留在不断增长和逐渐遗忘的记忆里头。
其实还挺有可看性的。一个极有耐心的作家花了十几年的时间慢慢折磨女主，就因为他会错了意。
浪费了交叉骨和斯巴达勇士这俩硬汉了，最有演技的就是那个神经病杀手，剧情太傻了，啥刺激场面也没有
开头还以为是局外人。还好比较短，不然我肯定不愿意看完。我就想说，弗兰克，不要设置一些他妈的plot twist。不知道是想表达absurdity of life还是什么，并没有达到这种效果。屠宰猪出现在房间里那一幕还不错，至少有视觉冲击力。我的夏洛特呀…
为了完成预设的情节反转，如此浪费时间真的是大可不必，米歇尔·弗兰克莫不如把狗血路线走到底，显然比这有趣太多。蒂姆·罗斯、夏洛特·甘斯布的优秀，是那种深陷粪坑也能绽放骄傲姿态的向阳而生。
